Youth goalkeeper glove size guide
The right size matters more than the brand. Here is how to measure your goalkeeper's hand, read a size chart and check the fit before the first game.

A glove that fits well helps a young goalkeeper catch with confidence. A glove that is too big folds over the ball and makes it slip; a glove that is too small cuts circulation and wears out fast.
How to measure the hand
- Use a soft measuring tape.
- Measure around the widest part of the palm, below the knuckles, without the thumb.
- Also measure the length from the base of the palm to the tip of the middle finger.
- Compare both numbers with the size chart of the brand you are buying, since sizes vary between brands.
Typical sizes by age
These are common ranges for youth gloves. Always confirm with the brand’s own chart.
| Age | Typical glove size |
|---|---|
| 5 to 7 | 4 to 5 |
| 8 to 10 | 5 to 6 |
| 11 to 12 | 6 to 7 |
| 13 to 14 | 7 to 8 |
| 15 and up | 8 to 9 or larger |
How to check the fit
- There should be about half a centimeter of space past the tip of the fingers.
- The goalkeeper should be able to close the hand comfortably.
- The strap should close firmly around the wrist without pinching.
Palm and cut, in simple terms
- Latex palm: the grippy surface. Softer latex grips better but wears faster.
- Flat cut: roomy and durable, good for beginners.
- Negative or roll cut: tighter around the fingers, preferred by many older goalkeepers.
Making gloves last
- Wet the palm lightly before playing, if the brand recommends it.
- Rinse with lukewarm water after use and let them air dry, away from the sun.
- Keep a separate older pair for training on artificial turf.
Our official glove partner is N1 Gloves, and at our camps goalkeepers can win a pair in the raffle.
